Sail Terms:
Head - top edge where the halyard is attached
Tack - the leading edge
Clew - the aft edge where the sheet is attached.
Line Terms:
Sheet = the line that is attached to the sail’s clew and controls the tension and shape of the sail under way.
Halyard = the line attached to the head of the sail which typically pulls the sail up the mast or deploys the sail. The TRIAK’s mainsail is fixed to the mast and does not have a traditional halyard for the main.

Mainsheet - 1/4” (6.35 mm) Polyester Sta-Set Yacht Braid 27 ft. (8.25 m)
Boom Vang- 3/16” 5mm Marlow Excel Polyester 15 ft. (4.6 m)
Spinnaker Halyard - 3/16” (4.76 mm) Polyester Sta-Set Yacht Braid (blue with white/red chex) 28 ft. (6.5m)
Spinnaker Outhaul - 3/16” (4.76 mm) Polyester Sta-Set Yacht Braid (green with white/red chex) 27 ft. (8.25 m)
Spinnaker Sheets - 3/16” (4.76 mm) Polyester Sta-Set Yacht Braid (red with white/blue chex) 27 ft. (8.25 m)
Tack :
1. Start with Figure Eight Knot on inside of Mast/Boom Knuckle and run line to the out and up through eye of sail
2. Run line into the opposite side of the knuckle and secure with a double-half-hitch.
Clew & Outhaul
1. Tie a Bowline knot through the eye of the sail
2. Run through the block (or pad-eye only) on the aft-end of the boom
3. Run forward through the forward pad-eye on top of the boom
4. Run back aft to the clam-cleat
5. Tie Figure Eight stopper knot on bitter end.
6. Wrap small “keeper” line around the boom and through the clew to keep the clew against boom (see photo below).
Head : The head is fastened onto the mast using 2 3/8” rivets. There are two holes in the top of the mast tube the rivets go into. A nylon pad-eye is riveted on the outside of the sail to hold the spinnaker halyard block.
Main Sheet Rigging:
1. Tie a bowline knot on the deck pad-eye just aft of the hatch
2. Run the sheet up and through the block at the aft-end of the boom
3. Run sheet forward to the forward to 2nd block about 2-3 feet aft of the mast
4. Run sheet through block and down to the deck block
5. Tie a Figure Eight stopper knot on bitter end.
Mainsheet Starts on Aft Deck

Mainsheet (lower) - Outhaul (top) - “Keeper” wraps around clew and boom

Mainsheet through forward block on boom and down to deck.
Mainsail Tack Attachment Through Mast/Boom Knuckle

Attached to the stainless steel pad-eye on the deck, there should be a Harken Single Micro block w/ Becket #225 and a Harken Single Micro block #224 on the bottom of the boom.
Boom Vang Rigging:
1. Starting with the deck block, tie a Bowline to the becket
2. Run the line up and through the block on the boom from aft -> fwd
3. Run the line down and through the deck block from fore -> aft
4. Run line through the pad-eye just forward of the vang cleat
5. Tie a Figure Eight stopper knot in the bitter end of the line

Halyard:
As noted above in the Mainsail section, a nylon pad-eye is riveted onto the top of the mast through the top of the mainsail. Attached to this pad-eye should be a Harken 16mm Swivel Block #417.
1. Start by pushing the halyard line down through the hole in the top of the mast.
NOTE: you may need a sharp, narrow tool to help initially guide it in.
NOTE 2: make sure the bitter end of the line has a clean cut and sealed with heat.
2. Push the line all the way down into the bi-pod mast until the bitter end is just past the opening in the in-mast block.
3. With a pair of narrow-tip pliers, grab the line and pull it through the opening in the block
4. Run aft through deck pad-eye and through the inboard Harken Carbo-Clam cleat
5. Tie a Figure Eight stopper knot in the bitter end
... Go back to the other end of the line above the bi-pod mast top
6. Run the opposite bitter end up from the bi-pod mast and through the Harken swivel block at the top of the mast.
7. Tie onto the Head of the Spinnaker with a Bowline Knot.

Outhaul:
1. Starting from the cockpit, run the line forward through the Harken Carbo-clam cleat
2. Run through the deck pad-eye - same one used for the halyard
3. Run the outhaul forward to the bow on the INSIDE of the bi-pod mast, bow sprit, and forestay...
4. Run through the block attached to the port-side of the hand strap.
5. Run through the hole in the center of the bow sprit
6. Attach to the tack of Spinnaker using a Bowline
7. Tie a Figure Eight stopper knot at the bitter end in the cockpit.

Spinnaker Sheets:
1. Take the red spinnaker sheet and tie one end onto the sail clew with a Bowline knot
2. Run the sheet aft and around the back of seat (typically around cockpit coaming)
3. On the opposite side of the boat, run the sheet forward and GO AROUND THE FORESTAY back to the clew on the spinnaker
4. Tie this end to the Spinnaker clew with a Bowline. That’s it!

Run sheet around back of seat/cockpit

It is recommended that before you head out on the water with your Triak that you double-check, and tidy up the rigging. Here are some good practices for a rig check and line management both before you sail and on the water
- Set the Triak up (wing & floats) and face the boat into the wind
- Raise the main rig
- NOTE: Make sure the spinnaker halyard is on the correct side of the mainsail and the slack doesn’t get caught on the end of the mainsail baton
- LINE MANAGEMENT: keep the excess main sheet and main halyard line on the starboard (right side) of the cockpit near your feed on the floor of the cockpit
- Pull the spinnaker out from the back of the seat and deploy the spinnaker by hosting it with the halyard and taking the tack out to the bow with the outhaul line
- LINE MANAGEMENT: keep the excess halyard and outhaul line on the port (left) side of the cockpit on the floor by your feet
- Make sure the spinnaker sheets are clear around the forestay and around the back of the seat
