TRIAKsports, Inc. is proud to announce that it has moved the manufacture of the TRIAK ultimate sailing kayak from British Columbia, Canada to San Diego, California in the United States of America.
“The move gives us more control over quality and volume on the fabrication and assembly of the TRIAK at our base of operations in San Diego,” states Thayer Ridgway, President of TRIAKsports, Inc.
Several enhancements to the production of the TRIAK have occurred since the move to San Diego. Most notably the use of Light Resin Transfer Molding (LRTM), more commonly known as vacuum infusion, has been applied to the fabrication of the deck and hull of the TRIAK. The near perfect resin-to-fiber ratio of vacuum infusion renders parts that are inherently lighter and stronger and the process provides consistent quality parts with small weight variances.
The use of a Methacralyte structural adhesive has been applied to the assembly of the TRIAK. Methacrylyte adhesives, used in aerospace and high-end marine construction, are stronger and much lighter than other bonding processes. The combination of vacuum infusion and advanced adhesives results in the assembled, rigged hull unit of the TRIAK to be reduced from 80-85 pounds to roughly 70 pounds on average.
“We’re incredibly happy with the infusion process and the other production updates we’ve made here in San Diego. Our new TRIAKs are simply lighter, stronger and better than ever,” says Thayer Ridgway.
