How well does the TRIAK sail upwind and how high can it point?
On average, the TRIAK points about 35-45 degrees off the wind and can point better depending on the conditions with good, consistent speed. Overall performance up wind is smooth and fast with average speeds of 4-7 knots.
How fast can the TRIAK go while sailing?
Under full sail (mainsail and spinnaker) the TRIAK will average 8-12 knots of boat speed and up to 15 knots in ideal conditions. With only the mainsail, in average winds of 10-15 knots, the TRIAk will sail 6.5-9 knots.
How does the TRIAK perform when paddling?
The great thing about the TRIAK is it was designed to paddle and sail comparably. On average you can paddle around 3.4-4.5 knots and can reach 6+ knots in a sprint.
Will I get a full paddle stroke?
Yes. The shape and position of the wing and floats allow for a full, unobstructed paddle stroke. We recommend a paddle no longer than the standard 220cm.
Can you paddle without the wing and floats?
The TRIAK is designed to be used with the wing and floats at all times. The wing and floats create stability and safety which is a huge advantage over traditional kayaks especially in colder climates where hypothermia is a big risk.
Do I need to register my boat?
The only states that require you to register your boat are Minnesota, Alabama, Delaware, Iowa, Illinois, Ohio, and Oklahoma.
Will I stay dry?
The TRIAK is an amazingly dry craft considering how close you are to the water. The combination of the shoe-horn deck-hull join and angled design of the bow deflects water that would otherwise roll up into your lap. With the stability of the boat, and the optional spray-skirt for colder climates, you may TRIAK all day in comfort and relative dryness.
Can you pitch pull the TRIAK?
The TRIAK will not pitch pull like a catamaran because the floats are not big enough to get the main hull out of the water which is the reason this situation occurs.
Can you capsize a TRIAK?
While paddling, the TRIAK is nearly impossible to capsize. Under sail, especially in a good breeze with the spinnaker flying, it is possible to capsize, however, the boat goes over very slowly and you have plenty of time to sheet out and recover before being dumped. The wing will start to burry giving adequate warning for you to release pressure in the sails, heal your body to windward, and level the boat out. For more information, read the blog post about proper sheeting and heeling angle.
How easy is the TRIAK to right once capsized?
If you do capsize, the boat is easily righted. Lean on one of the floats and pull the hull over by the wing. The bloom-less mainsail does not provide resistance like a stayed-rig or windsurfer so it rights smoothly and easily.
Is the TRIAK easy to use for a novice?
Yes. The TRIAK is not only fun for experienced kayakers and sailors but is easy enough to be used by beginners. Inexperienced paddlers will enjoy the stability and speed of the boat for a fun kayaking experience. With just the mainsail (no spinnaker) the TRIAK is simple to sail using just the mainsheet and is extremely fast, responsive and fun.
How will my TRIAK be delivered?

The crate dimensions are approximately: 24' x 30' x 229' with 300 lb. packed weight (61 cm x 76 cm x 581.6 cm and 140 kg).
